If there is one lesson we as woman all learn as we age, it’s that our hair ages right along with us and trying to keep it healthy and strong is a JOB! After many years of frying my hair with a low quality flat iron and using cheap products in my early 20s, my hair was a hot mess a few years ago. I set about changing my washing habits from every day to every 3-4 days, stopped using the flat iron every day and invested in high quality styling products and tools. These steps have made such a difference in the health of my hair- so much so that the little one inch pieces sticking out by my ears have actually grown to almost 6 inches now!! These are the hair products and tools that I swear by in my attempt to beat back Father Time and keep my hair looking it’s best!

  1. Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore Shampoo & Gold Lust Transformative Masque– I started using this shampoo and conditioner a little over a year ago and I instantly noticed a difference in the health of my hair. It smells so amazing and in my opinion is worth the high price tag. Taking care of your healthy hair is much cheaper than trying to go back and pay for expensive treatments once your hair is damaged.
  2. Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner– This is another shampoo and conditioner that I love and I usually rotate this one with the Oribe products. These come at a cheaper price point, so rotating keeps the overall cost of my hair products down.
  3. Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil– I like to mix a couple of droppers full of this argan oil with 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil for an amazing treatment to add shine and softness to my hair. Simply apply the mixture all over your hair a few hours before you plan to shower and let it work it’s magic while you go about your business. Shampoo and conditioner as usual and BOOM! silky smooth hair is the result!
  4. Kerastase Masque Magistral– This deep conditioner by Kerastase is so thick and luxe and I like to use it once every 3-4 washes instead of my regular conditioner to add moisture and softness to my hair.
  5. Davines- Oi All in One Milk– Hair is most delicate and likely to break when it is wet, so a detangling spray is a must before combing through your freshly washed hair. This spray by Davines smells fantastic and will help prevent breakage after washing!
  6. Oribe Balm d’Or Heat Styling Shield– When you use as many heat tools on your hair as I do, a heat protectant is a must! This one by Oribe not only protects strands from heat damage, but it also helps smooth hair before blow drying.
  7. Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo– I consider it a personal achievement when I manage to go several days in a row without washing my hair! Drybar’s dry shampoo gives me the ability to stretch my blowout by using it at the roots to absorb any oil and freshen my scalp with a subtle scent!
  8. Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse– I have a very hard time getting volume at the roots of my hair, but this mousse by Oribe gives amazing results when used before blow drying. It really does add so much fullness to my roots!
  9. Kenra Platinum Silkening Gloss– After drying or before flat ironing/curling, I like to add a little bit of this Kenra Gloss to the ends of my hair to seal the cuticle and add extra shine!
  10. Tigi Bed Head Masterpiece Massive Shine Hairspray– I have been using this hairspray for several years and I am hooked. It holds even the most stubborn hair in place and I don’t like to leave anything to chance when it comes to my hair staying where I want it!
  11. GHD Classic Straightening & Styling Iron– I try to use the flat iron as little as possible because it is so hard on delicate hair. But every once in a while a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! I am a firm believer in investing in a high quality flat iron that will minimize damage to your hair and I think GHD is the best of the best! This flat iron heats in just 20 seconds and maintains a healthy 365 degrees to add shine to hair without breakage!
  12. Hot Tools 24K Gold Salon Curling Iron/Wand– After a few years of using a curling wand, I have returned to using the traditional curling iron with a clamp because I feel like it makes my curls last longer. I personally like the Hot Tools curling iron with the extended barrel to curl my long hair, but for those with shorter hair the regular length barrel would be perfect.
  13. Drybar Buttercup Blow Dryer– Drybar’s blow dryer is super powerful and with three heat settings, it allows the flexibility to choose the temperature that is right for your hair.
  14. Mason Pearson Popular Mixture Nylon & Boar Bristle Brush– A high quality brush is an investment that will last for years and will help prevent breakage by using natural boar bristles and distributing oil from the scalp to ends of hair!
