Green cardigan tan bootie outfit formula

I am so excited to be starting a new series today on the blog that is designed to take the guesswork out of getting dressed with what I am calling “Effortless Outfit Formula.” While I love adding crazy trendy pieces to my wardrobe (re: the ruffled shirt that my daughter calls my “John Adams shirt” and the Zara boots with gold heels that one of my husband’s friends said looked like I stepped on a tin can!😂), I understand that many women may not love making these risky fashion statements! With that in mind, I have set about creating a series of outfits comprised of classic pieces that will never go out of style and can be worn by women of all ages and sizes. The pieces within these outfits are ones that you would buy if you were creating a capsule wardrobe made up of only a few items that can be mixed and matched in many different ways. Think leather jacket, a great winter coat, a fun pair of ballet flats, a cute pair of sneakers, a great white Tshirt, etc. We all need these default outfits that we can throw on when we are running low on time but want to look and feel great!

The first outfit formula that I am featuring in this series is made up of many items that I have owned for several years! A basic white cami is an essential layering piece that can be worn under any sweater or jacket in your closet and an army green cardigan is a great alternative to a black cardigan without falling into the category of “trendy” color. As my darling husband pointed out as I was assembling the graphic for this post, my jeans with blown out knees are very much a current trend! However, this look works with any pair of skinny/straight jeans that you like or have in your closet. So skip the ripped jeans if that doesn’t appeal to you! Finishing this look with a simple pair of tan boots keeps it neutral and ensures that it will look great today and 5 years from today.
